My Start with HireAbility Vermont
When I first connected with HireAbility Vermont, I was working in a childcare center and trying to earn my Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. English is my second language, and although I was determined to succeed, I found myself struggling to keep up with the requirements. I knew I wanted more for myself and my daughter, but I didn’t know how to get there.
A referral from Adult Basic Education in St. Johnsbury led me to HireAbility. That’s when things began to change. I started working with a counselor who truly listened to me and took the time to understand my situation. As someone who speaks Cantonese and learned language mostly through speaking, not through formal grammar in any language, I had difficulty with coursework and navigating systems.
What HireAbility Vermont Means to Me
HireAbility became my bridge to possibility. With their support, I received one-on-one tutoring, creative learning strategies, and the encouragement I needed to succeed. I earned my CDA and began dreaming even bigger, I wanted to become a nurse.
When challenges came up in my nursing program, my counselor was always there. From helping me get extra tutoring and covering gas and car repairs, to assisting with stable housing and balancing everything as a single mom, HireAbility was by my side through it all.
One of my biggest goals was to move beyond public assistance and create a more stable life for my daughter. With HireAbility’s help, I did just that. I became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), found full-time work with a schedule that supports my family life, and no longer need subsidies. I’m earning a steady income and building a future I’m proud of.
My Advice for Anyone Thinking About Connecting with HireAbility Vermont
Work hard and don’t give up. Ask yourself, “How can I do this?” instead of thinking you can’t. The right support system can change everything. HireAbility gave me that support, especially my counselor Jeff, who I’ll never forget.
If you’re looking for a better path and you’re willing to put in the effort, HireAbility Vermont can help you get there. I recommend them to everyone. They helped me build a life filled with pride, purpose, and independence. They can help you too.
